The Head Of Steam

The Head of Steam is located about a 15-minute stroll from the stadium, nestled conveniently near Newcastle Central Station. It’s a popular spot for away fans, and honestly, it’s no wonder. This place buzzes with a lively late-night atmosphere that just screams fun.

There’s a little something for everyone at The Head of Steam. The bar serves a wide variety of both cask and keg, making it a haven for those of us who love a good pint. And the vibe is just so inviting and comfortable, it’s hard not to get drawn in. They’ve even got two separate bars, so it never feels overly crowded.

I found the prices here are pretty reasonable too. There’s also parking nearby. If you are travelling by car, be sure to check out our St James Park parking guide. Definitely one of the best pubs near St James’s Park Newcastle.

The Newcastle Tap

Let’s talk – The Newcastle Tap. This place is a haven for beer lovers, with a whopping 24 draught beers and ciders on tap, not to mention a fridge packed with bottled and canned beers from all around the globe.

Just a 12-minute walk from St James’ Park and conveniently near the railway station, it’s a great spot for away fans. I was particularly impressed by their ‘beer dough’ pizzas, made fresh every day using the finest Italian ingredients and a good glug of Weihenstephaner Wheat Beer straight from the tap for that extra crispy base.

Honestly, the excellent choice of beers and the warm and welcoming staff made my visit to The Newcastle Tap a memorable one. Definitely a top choice if you’re in town for the match!

Shearer's Bar

Shearer’s Sports Bar is quite the spot for a footie fan like me. Tucked away in the Gallowgate End of St. James’ Park itself, it’s got a vibe that’s hard to beat. Not only do they offer a wide range of beers, wines, and spirits, but their food menu is also top-notch – the nachos are my personal favourite.

It’s a great place to catch a match, with 35 large screen TVs airing all major sporting events. The staff are super friendly, and the atmosphere is always buzzing, especially on match days. And the best part? It’s a great spot for both home and away fans. So whether you’re a local or just visiting, make sure to pop in – you won’t be disappointed! It’s definitely one of the best pubs near St James Park.

Newcastle Wetherspoons

No list of pubs can be complete without a JD Wetherspoons feature, that’s why we’ve got three choices for you: The Keel Row, The Mile Castle & The Five Swans. I’ve unfortunately not had the pleasure of visiting all three of these, however, I think we all know what to expect with a Spoons. Cheap drinks and quick service – nothing fancy.

The Keel Row is the closest to the ground, however, the other two aren’t particularly far away. As with the majority of Spoons on matchday, the majority will allow both home and away fans aslong as you behave respectfully (and sometimes avoid wearing team colours). Overall, you can’t really go wrong with a Wetherspoons can you…
